Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Kogi state chapter has called for strengthening of laws to end gender-based violence.

Chairperson of NAWOJ, Kogi State Chapter, Comrade Stella Edoka made the call in a statement at the end of the Association’s activities to mark this year’s sixteen days of activism against gender-based violence in Lokoja.

The Association also called on government at all levels to establish referral centers for rehabilitation of sexually assaulted victims.

NAWOJ in the statement said more actions were needed to ensure women live normal lives free of violence and coercion.

The statement said to end violence against women, there was need to address attitudes that rationalize, normalize, and perpetrate violence as well as deny women’s rights.

It called for more collaboration among stakeholders to change the narrative, challenge the violence, and make sure women and girls everywhere are heard and protected in efforts to end the menace once and for all.
