Falcons Arrive Praia Ahead Cape Verde Clash

Ahead of the second leg of the final round of the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Cape Verde, the Nigerian delegation of players, coaches, and officials have landed in Praia.

The team’s arrival in Cape Verde was confirmed on the Super Falcons’ official X handle on Sunday.

“We safely landed in Praia, Cape Verde this evening, ahead of our second leg tie on December 5,” the post of the handle read.

The Falcons head into Tuesday’s game with a five-goal advantage.

Braces from Uchenna Kanu and Esther Okoronkwo couple with another goal from Monday Gift saw Nigeria secure a comfortable 5-0 win over Cape Verde in the first leg of the qualifier played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Thursday.

While Nigeria walked over São Tomé and Príncipe in the first round, Cape Verde claimed an impressive 6-3 aggregate win over Liberia to set up the clash with the Falcons.The nine-time African champions showed their superiority as they edged closer to the WAFCON scheduled to be held in Morocco next year.

The return leg is scheduled for the 15,000-capacity, artificial-turfed Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde in Praia on Tuesday.

The Falcons, who are ranked 40th in the world are the favourites and they will hope to guard against any complacency against their hosts who are ranked 134th on the global scale.

To beat the Falcons to the WAFCON ticket, Cape Verde must score six goals against a Nigerian side that has never lost by a three-goal margin to any African opposition in all competitions in their history.

Nigeria has never missed any edition of the WAFCON and has been crowned champions of the competition nine of the 12 times it has been held.
