Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Youths in Parliament,
Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala has promised that young members of the house will focus on important issues to help the country grow.
Alao-Akala who made the promise during the inauguration of the Committee said that the youths are determined to make Nigeria shine globally in terms of the economy, infrastructure, and every possible way.
He mentioned that plans are underway to hold the first youths in Parliament conference with the goal to share information and promote friendly connections among youth members in Parliament nationwide.
“the Committee in line with the provisions of the 10th Assembly’s Standing Rules is saddled with the responsibility of “initiating good policies on parliamentarian research and documentation and ensuring efficient databank of youths in national and state Assemblies; oversight and monitoring of youths in Parliament; ensuring harmonious relationship between the young legislators in the national and state Assemblies”.
According to him, the Committee is also expected to initiate and organise national and international conference, workshops and other fora for the education of youths in Parliament, recommend to the House the formation of any youth Parliamentary groups, making recommendations on desirability of the House sending youth delegation to specific Inter-Parliamentarian events, among others.
In his remarks, A member from Benue State, Ojotu Ojeme who observed that young parliamentarians have enormous opportunities encouraged his fellow young Parliamentarians to use their positions to address the needs of the people they represent and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Highlighting the responsibility that comes with being part of the National Assembly, he stressed the need for unity among the youth members and expressed optimism that by working together, they could overcome challenges and effectively advocate for policies that benefit the youth and the nation as a whole.
