Proper certification and evaluation of the 9-3-4 system of education at the basic level is a vital key in repositioning the sector.
The Secretary for Education in the FCTA, Dr Danlami Hayyo, made this known at the presentation of the Basic Education Certificates
Examination (BECE) to FCT Schools, in the just concluded Junior W.A.E.C.
He commended the FCT Education Resource Center for the innvovation, noting that teaching and learning needs to be evaluated to meet international best practice.
Dr Hayyo also called for the inclusion of date of birth in the certificates being issued.
“One of the policies in education is that teaching and learning needs to be evaluated, so in the process, certification is issued, being one of the important keys to evaluate performance of students”.
“Part of the mandate of ERC is to issue and distribute certificates to students, I will also advise ERC to include date of birth in subsequent certificates, which is very important”.
Earlier in her remarks, the Director FCT Education Resource Center, Hajia Neemat Abdulrahim reiterated the commitment of the center in providing and improving on the quality of education in FCT as well as the quality of certificates being issued.

“The significance of this is that when we issue this certificate, there are some students that doesn’t want to continue their education, they want to learn a skill, among others, they can have something to present that they have attended basic education and also give them a sense of belonging”.
“The presentation signifies that FCT Education Resource Center is in line with the Federal government’s 9-3-4 system of education at basic levels”.
Dr Abdulrahim added that the certificate presentation which started in 2021 is both for the public and private schools in FCT.
