Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, says the numerous dams and twelve River Basin Development Authorities if properly harnessed will boost food security.
He stated this when he hosted Legislators from Sokoto State in his office in Abuja.
Goronyo explained that these dams were constructed to provide water for the River Basin Development Authorities for Irrigation across the country, to accelerate food production in line with the Food Security Agenda of the present Administration.
He urged the legislators to think outside the box to support the Federal Executive Council in achieving success in President Bola Tinubu’s 8-point mandate.
The Minister further reiterated his unwavering commitment and that of the Minister to succeed in their mandate.
He emphasized that they have commenced familiarization tours of the Twelve River Basin Development Authorities across the country to assess their status and properly reposition them for the tasks ahead.
Goronyo appealed to the Legislators to partner the ministry in delivering the dividends of democracy not only to Sokoto State but to all Nigerians.
He added that they all share a greater responsibility in addressing the perennial security situation, high poverty level, youth unemployment, out-of-school children and other vices afflicting Sokoto State and Nigeria as a whole.
The Minister of State expressed gratitude for the visit, assuring them of adequate representation in the Federal Executive Council.
On his part, the Speaker of Sokoto state House of Assembly, Tukur Bala Bodinga, stressed that the visit was to show solidarity and congratulate the Minister on his well-deserved appointment to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation.
Bodinga acknowledged the challenging task ahead and pledged their support to help him achieve the mandate given by Mr. President.
The legislators offered prayers for the success of the Minister in his new role.
