Senate To Ensure Provision Of Water For Nigerians- Yari

The Senate says it will work closely with the executive to ensure provision of potable water for Nigerians.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Water Resources, Sen. Abdul’aziz Yari stated this at the inaugural meeting of the committee in Abuja.

The lawmaker said that water was equated with life, hence it was the responsibility of government to provide clean water to its citizens.

According to him, there was need to provide water for energy, agriculture and other purposes for the betterment of all and sundry.

He gave the assurance that the committee would work with the executive, government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) under the committee to advance the water resources sector.

Yari promised that the committee would deligently conduct its functions and oversight to attain the agenda of the 10th Senate.

He said the committee would look at the 16 agencies and evolve measures on how best to improve their performance on water supply.

The lawmaker said the agencies were created to ensure supply of water for the purpose of development on sectors like electricity, agriculture and ultimately rural development of the people.

Yari said any bill that was against the interest of the people would not receive the support of Senate, stressing that the National Assembly would only legislate and support bills of interest to Nigerians.
