The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has called on accredited Civil Society Organizations to adhere strictly to the code of conduct for monitoring next month’s Off cycle Governorship elections in Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo states.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu gave the advise during a consultative meeting with Civil Society Organizations, CSO’s in Abuja.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu said the meeting was to brief the accredited Civil Society Organizations on the level of preparation for the polls.

He said the Commission was aware of their concerns about the safety of persons involved in the election as well as the protection of polling units and collation centers.

The INEC Boss however assured that security agencies have pledged to ensure hitch Free polls.

According to him, the Commission will provide identify cards to One Hundred and Forty five Organizations which will deploy no fewer than Seven Thousand Eight hundred and Ninety Six observers for the Three States.

Professor Yakubu emphasized that the Commission would continue to engage stakeholders both at the national and state levels to strengthen democratic governance in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the CSOs, Mr Funsho Tunde said the organizations would continue to carry out their responsibilities according to the rules guiding election observation.

Mr Tunde commended INEC for its doggedness in strengthening the electoral process in the country.
