The Nigeria IDP Diaspora Support, NIDS, in Partnership with the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, UATH, Gwagwalada, Abuja has trained adult and children trauma counselors to help in emergency cases.
The group also held a 3-day medical outreach for pregnant women and children in displaced communities in the FCT.
Chairman, Nigeria IDP Diaspora Support Group, Mr Kelvin Obi during the outreach disclosed that the group is a non-profit charity organization with focus on maternal, child and mental health.
He said training of adult and children trauma counsellors for community health workers and nurses would help to reduce maternal and child mortality rate in the country.
Dr Sambo Thomas from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, UATH, commended the Support Group for their regular medical missions to IDP camps.
The team of experts led by Professor Rotimi Jaiyesimi rendered clinical services at Kuchingoro and Waru IDP camps as well as donated surgical scrubs and medical consumables to UATH.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Chief Medical Director UATH, Professor Bissallah Ekele, the head of Information and Publicity, Sani Suleiman, appreciated the efforts of the Group stressing that the items would no doubt impact positively in service delivery at the facility.
