A Non-Governmental Organization, Merit Time International has called for patriotic and committed leadership towards achieving the desired national development in Nigeria.
The National Coordinator of the Organisation, Mr Sunday Okwu made the call at the Merit Time National Lecture and Award ceremony in Abuja.
Mr Okwu who described inefficiency and lack of competent leadership as the bane of development said the lecture was organized to further sensitize stakeholders on good leadership.
“According to Jimmy Dean, ‘I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination”, the above proverb speaks volumes of the way we are as human beings and the ingenuity a leader needs to sail a ship to its destination” He stated.
The National Coordinator explained that Merit Time International is an organization that is delivering its dream of bringing leaders in Africa and Nigeria in particular together under one umbrella.
” We bring these leaders together to tell them how great and hard working they are, cross-fertilize ideas, and chart a way for better leadership delivery which is service in our continent and the question of leadership has been in our public domain for a long time now and to find answers to the many challenges confronting leadership, we decide to have a forum like this” Mr Okwu stressed.
“It’s a gathering of leaders where we learn from one another. It’s an event where we show appreciation for those little things that don’t matter to many but are very important for growth. It’s an opportunity for all of us to be heard and to contribute our quota for development and above all, it’s a gathering where hard work is rewarded and celebrated” He added.
In a remark, the Chairman, Merit Board Governing Council, Dr Oyaide advised Nigerian youths to always hold their leaders accountable for combating corruption and fast-track national development.
Dr. Oyaide also stressed the need for them to develop a keen interest in leadership development towards becoming good and productive future leaders of the country.
On her part, the Guest Speaker, Dr Uzodinma Adirieje commended Merit Time International for the lecture and advised leaders at all levels to always place national interest and development above personal gains to reposition Nigeria for greatness.
Highlights of the lecture were the presentation of awards to some deserving Nigerians who have over the years exhibited good leadership qualities and mentorship.
