Wike Sets Up JTF As Reporter Narrowly Survive One-Chance Brutality

Background

In the wake of increasing cross-border banditry and the menace of one-chance robbers, the Federal Capital Territory Administration has set up two joint task forces drawn from all security agencies in the territory.

This was part of the resolution from the FCT Security Council meeting chaired by the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.

Wike noted that the meeting was convened to discuss ways to flush out criminal elements in the FCT as well as stop cross-border crimes and the menace of One Chance.

Nine days ago, a female Journalist with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Kapital FM Abuja, who happened to be one of the FCT Minister’s Press Corps members, narrowly survived the brutality of One-Chance guys, after beating her mercilessly and collected all her valuables, including her mobile phone at about some minutes past 8 pm.

Several other cases of One-Chance victims were recorded within the week in FCT, whereby robbers pose as taxi drivers to pick up unsuspecting passengers in satellite towns and even in FCC and dispossess them, and sometimes violently beat and harm their victims.

The FCT Minister’s reporter who fell victim to One Chance, after receiving treatment at Garki Hospital, is currently nursing her wounds at home and counting her loss.

Reiterating commitment to keep Abuja safe, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Haruna Garba after the Security Council meeting told journalists that the decision to set up the joint taskforce was to tackle the issue of armed robbery, kidnappers, and other crimes in the FCT.

Garba who was flanked by the FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu as well as other defense and intelligence chiefs, said the two security operations have commenced in earnest.

Garba assured FCT residents of the Command’s readiness to curb all forms of criminalities in the territory, to enable residents to sleep with their two eyes closed.

“What we are doing is to raid and we raid we remove the chaff from the grains so that residents can sleep with their two eyes closed”.

Speaking on why security operatives often raid mechanic workshops in the territory, the police boss said it was based on intelligence.

“FCT is the heart of the country, with a lot of people coming in who have no businesses here. They end up staying under bridges and even in some mechanic workshops.”
