Teqball: 2023 World Championship Qualifiers Winners Emerge

Champions in the finals of the 2023 Teqball World Championship Qualifiers have emerged over the weekend in Abuja.

In the keenly contested event which began last Friday and ended on Sunday evening at the Indoor Sports Hall of the MKO national stadium Abuja, Nigeria number one in the Men’s Singles event Victor Oyemade defeated Khalid Yahaya 2-1 (12-4, 10-12, 12-6).

While Rashidat Salau edged out Oluchi Onah in 2 straight sets in the Women’s Singles final for the win.

The Mixed Doubles saw the pair of Funsho Samson and Rashidat Salau defeating Gladys Abasi and Edosa Ebosa in 2 straight set.

Victor Oyemade and Funsho Samson won the Men’s Doubles event 2-1 against Khalid Yahyah who paired Andrew Ikoko.

Speaking to Kapital FM Sports after the final game, Victor Oyemade said he will now shift his focus to the Teqball world championship.

“My plan now is to go back to the drawing board and continue training and improve more because I am going to the world championship, it’s not a small tournament so I need to improve and if I can get the opportunity to play some friendly games against international Teqballers before the world cup it will be very good so that I can have a good chance to win the gold medal”

A partner of the Nigeria Teqball Federation and Chief Executive Officer of Meraki Global Management an internet service provider based in the United Arab Emirate UAE Mr. Syed Faiz Ahmed explains the importance of the partnership to his organization.

“It aligns with our global vision, teqball is new and we want to go together in supporting the youth in continuing their passion, I see the passion especially women and men combined together playing”

While commending the athlete’s dedication, Mr. Ahmed also said that his organization is already looking at other ways of partnering with the Teqball Federation in Nigeria.

“Everybody has something to offer, everybody has been very passionate, very energetic and I see their dedication towards the game, goodluck to them and I’m sure they will do well in the international platform, we always believe in supporting the young talents.”

Correspondent Thomas Bello reports that winners in each event contested for in the qualifiers will go on to represent Nigeria at the Teqball World Championship in Thailand from November 28 to December 2, 2023.
