Germany has appointed former FC Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann to lead the men’s national football team until July 2024.
The German football association (DFB) said Nagelsmann was taking over on a short-term contract through next year’s European Championship finals.
Germany are set to host the competition which runs from 14 June to 14 July 2024.
The 36-year-old German will be able to leave after Euro 2024 finals.
Nagelsmann when talking after his appointment said;
“We have a European Championship in our own country. This is something special, something that only happens every few decades…..
“Having a great tournament in a great country is the priority. I’m very keen to take on this challenge … We will be a close-knit bunch next year.”
He succeeds Hansi Flick for the second time in a coaching role.
Flick is the first Germany coach ever to be fired from the position.
The 58 year old was sacked after a poor run of results, culminating in a 4-1 friendly defeat by Japan in Wolfsburg early September.
Nagelsmann has been out of work since he was sacked by Bayern Munich in March after less than two years in charge.
