The National Association of Nigerian Traders has performed the ground breaking of its Milk Production Factory in Giri Community of Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, the Director of Agriculture in the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Alan Sy- Traore commended NANTS for always living up to expectations in its partnership project with the Commission.
Dr. Tauore who said the factory was in line with ECOWAS Agricultural Policy on Livestock Value Chain expressed the Commission’s continuous partnership with NANTS on trade and economic projects that would enhance economic development in Nigeria and the ECOWAS region in general.
In a remark, the Deputy Director, Commercial Ruminant and Diary Production, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ibilade Akeem commended NANTS for the project and also expressed the Ministry’s readiness to partner with the Association on meat and milk production.
According to him, the Milk Production Factory is in line with the food security programme of the Federal Government.
Earlier, the National President of NANTS, Dr Ken Ukoaha said the project which is in partnership with the ECOWAS Commission, would be completed in the next 14 months.
Dr Ukaoha stated that the Factory has a training centre for young people, demonstration farm, waste conversion point, milk collation Centre, office accomodation, 24 hours electricity and water supply among others.
According to him, the factory was to ensure the production of hygienic milk towards enhancing food security and national development.
The National President of NANTS added that the project when completed would serve as a training ground for students of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Abuja and other relevant Institutions within and around the FCT as well as ensure job creation and youth Empowerment
In a goodwill message, the Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Abu Giri represented by Mr Yohanna Ishaya of the Agric Department described the project as a welcomed development in the area.
On his part, the Aguma of Giri, Alhaji Musa Wakili thanked NANTS for siting the factory in his Community.
