todayAugust 30, 2023

Background

A member representating Enugu North/Enugu South Federal Constituency, Chimaobi Sam Atu has called on Nigerians to join hands with the Federal Government to urgently bring an end to the spate of insecurity in the South East in particular and Nigeria in general.

The Lawmaker who stated this while speaking with newsmen in Abuja said the role of securing lives and property of Nigerians is the collective task of all Nigerians hence the House of Representatives would continue to provide the needed support to the military to end cases of banditry, kidnappings in the country.

” We believe that security is everybody’s business. It’s not only the governor nor the House of Representatives, Senate or House of Assembly on our own, we are supporting the governor to make sure there is security cause where there is security, there is progress. In my place, Kidnapping is the order of the day, then unknown gun men he said”.

Speaking on youth restiveness,
the Lawmaker, who identified unemployment as one of the causes of insecurity, urged youths to engage in meaningful ventures by embracing the Federal and state government’s efforts at creating massive employment opportunities through implementation of agricultural policies.

“They should be focused in whatever they do. Engage themselves in Agriculture, education. I urge them not to be used by politicians that does not want anything good for them.because most of the politicians send their kids abroad while using them for thuggery, he said.

Mr Atu noted that insecurity has prevented the country from harnessing its human and material resources towards meaningful development and the promotion of the general well being of the people.

The Lawmaker enjoined the government to do more in funding the security agencies, as more still needed to be done in the area of intelligence gathering in the fight against insurgency, banditry and other violent crimes across the country.

Mr Atu also advised security agencies to effectively collaborate with sister security agencies to ensure that all security threats are completely neutralized.
