FCT-IRS, Kuje Area Council Sign Revenue Collection MOU

In line with the harmonization drive of the FCTA, the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has signed a Memorandum Of Understanding, MOU, with Kuje Area Council on revenue collection.

Signing the MOU in Abuja, the Executive Chairman FCT- IRS, Mr Haruna Abdullahi who explained that the harmonisation drive in the FCT” is a marathon not a sprint” assured that all concerns raised by stakeholders would be taken into consideration and addressed properly.

Mr Abdullahi said stakeholders are encouraged to ask pertinent questions as the project progresses, pointing out that the Service would be there to provide answers to issues raised.

According to him, the MoU would give stakeholders a clearer framework of their respective roles and shared responsibilities in the harmonisation initiative.

He also said It would serve as a template of possibilities that could be achieved when organizations collaborate.

Mr. Abdullahi emphasized that the FCT-IRS would actively engage major stakeholders to provide clarity to any concern raised based on legal provisions.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Mr. Abdullahi expressed his confidence in overcoming them with determination, integrity, and commitment to openness.

He assured the residents that every money generated would be used judiciously by leveraging on technology, strategic partnerships, and adopting international best practices in maintaining high standard in its processes.

His words: This is not just about Kuje, it is a template and beckon of hope on what can be achieved when organisations come together. I always say harmonisation is a marathon, not a sprint so there will be challenges along the way but with determination and integrity …as we embark on this harmonisation journey I want to assure all residents of the city that every contributed kobo will be accounted for and used judiciously.” Abdulahi said.

On his part, the Executive Chairman, Kuje Area Council, Mr Abdullahi Sabo, expressed confidence in the capacity of the FCT-IRS to handle revenue collection on behalf of the Council.

Mr Sabo who noted that the Council would also require the services of FCT-IRS in improving and standardizing its existing data where all collection would be automated into a cashless system, prayed that the success of the project would attract other area councils to key into the harmonisation drive soonest.

The FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr Olusade Adesola who witnessed the signing of the MoU, expressed delight over the mutual trust and understanding between Kuje Area Council and FCT-IRS on revenue collection.

He further added that the harmonisation initiative would address issues related to multiple taxation and foster a more business-friendly environment in the city.
