NDC Not A Proxy For APC – Seriake Dickson

todayMarch 31, 2026

Background

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has dismissed claims that the newly registered party is a proxy for the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that its registration is legitimate and unchallenged.

Speaking in Abuja, the former Bayelsa State Governor said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) duly registered the NDC in line with a valid court order.

He stressed that “there is no litigation against NDC registration” and that INEC “cannot reverse what has already been implemented.”

Senator Dickson rejected suggestions that the NDC was formed to weaken the opposition or serve the interest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing such allegations as baseless.

He stated that he remained one of the most consistent critics of the current administration in the Senate.

According to him, the NDC is an independent, ideological platform designed to bring together Nigerians who believe in democratic values.

He emphasized that no individual or group has the right to dictate political choices, noting that “democracy means freedom to belong to any political party, including the NDC.”

The former governor also said many who claim to be in the opposition are covertly aligned with the Federal Government, while he has maintained a consistent stance over time.

Senator Dickson urged critics to respect the political rights of Nigerians and not resort to blackmail.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, he said new political movements often face resistance, but remain strengthened by it.

Senator Dickson added that the NDC will not dissolve into the ADC, APC, Labour Party or any other platformbut instead, the party will contest all elective positions in the next general election from the presidency to council polls with the aim of providing Nigerians a credible alternative.
