Funke Akindele Snubs Toyin Abraham At Movie Premiere

todayMarch 31, 2026

Background

A viral moment involving Nollywood stars Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham at the premiere of a movie has sparked reactions across social media and within the film industry.

The event, hosted by Iyabo Ojo, attracted several leading figures in Nollywood. Reports indicate that Toyin Abraham arrived shortly before the screening commenced.

She was said to have greeted colleagues at her table, including Funke Akindele. However, Akindele reportedly maintained a calm but distant demeanor and did not visibly respond to the greeting.

Despite the incident, Toyin Abraham later exchanged pleasantries with Iyabo Ojo and fellow actress Mercy Aigbe, both of whom were said to have responded warmly.

Tensions appeared to shift online shortly after the event, with reports that Toyin Abraham unfollowed Funke Akindele on Instagram and expressed displeasure in a now-deleted post.

Screenshots circulating online show a comment attributed to her stating: “I have unfollowed her. God forbid a bad thing. If I ever greet her again, that means….”

Funke Akindele was also reported to have unfollowed Toyin Abraham, further fueling speculation of a renewed rift between the two actresses.

The development has reignited longstanding discussions about a perceived rivalry between the pair, dating back to the early 2010s within the Yoruba film industry.

Over the years, comparisons between their careers, alongside fan-driven narratives, have continued to amplify speculation of competition.

The rivalry notably came to the fore in 2021 during a box office clash between Omo Ghetto: The Saga and The Ghost and the Tout Too.
