The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says Niger State is at risk of a polio outbreak, if urgent measures are not taken.
The United Nations Children’s Fund Social and Behaviour Change Specialist, Kaduna Field Office, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed who made this known in Minna said unvaccinated children are particularly vulnerable.
Dr. Mohammed explained that
with cases in neighbouring states like Bauchi, Kebbi, Kwara, Zamfara, and Sokoto, Niger State is at significant risk of polio outbreak.
He urges parents and guardians to ensure their children are vaccinated in the upcoming polio immunisation campaign starting March 29th, 2026.
The State Health Educator, Mohammed Usman, said the campaign will cover all 25 local government areas in Niger State, stressing that full protection requires multiple vaccine doses.
