CAN Demands Prosecution Of Perpetrators Of Angwan Rukuba Attack

todayMarch 30, 2026

Background

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN has called for immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for deadly attack that disrupted Palm Sunday celebration in Angwan Rukuba, Gari Ya Waye Area of Jos North, Plateau state.

In a statement, the CAN President Most Reverend Daniel Okoh said prompt and decisive action would restore public confidence and uphold the value of human life.

Archbishop Okoh who condemned the attack said that a day meant for peace and spiritual reflection was instead marked by violence, with innocent men, women, and children reportedly killed.

According to the CAN President, the attackers, heavily armed men, allegedly infiltrated the community wearing uniforms similar to those of security personnel before opening fire on unsuspecting residents.

He also expressed concern over the use of fake military uniforms by the assailants, noting that such tactics erode trust in security agencies and must be thoroughly investigated.

Archbishop Okoh urged security operatives to intensify efforts to prevent further attacks, and advised Christians observing the Holy Week and the Easter season to remain alert, cooperate with security agencies, and take necessary measures to protect their communities.
