Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced his resignation from the party, citing the need for “strategic realignment” in light of the nation’s evolving political landscape.
In a statement he personally signed in Abuja, Kwankwaso says the decision was difficult, given his role as the party’s national leader and its 2023 presidential flagbearer.
It expresses appreciation to the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, the National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, and party executives at all levels for their support.
The statement also thanks members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their loyalty, assuring that they will continue working together for a better Nigeria.
The statement notes that Kwankwaso’s departure comes a day after he met former President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja to discuss national issues.
According to the statement, his political movement has also confirmed that he will formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday.
