Kogi Governor’s Wife Donates Items To Okene Correctional Facility

Background

The wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has donated food items worth millions of naira to inmates at the Nigeria Correctional Centre in Achoze, Okene.

During the distribution, the First Lady, stated that the initiative was intended to alleviate the challenges faced by inmates, particularly nursing mothers.

Hajia Sefinat Ododo who was represented by the wife of the Kogi State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Princess Karimat Abdullahi, said the visit is aimed at offering hope to those incarcerated, emphasizing that inmates are still considered as valuable members of society.

She encouraged them to use their time in the facility for reflection, to adopt positive attitudes, and engage in the various skills acquisition and vocational training programs available.

Hajia Ododo highlighted the government’s commitment to their rehabilitation and reintegration into society, pledging to advocate for faster resolution of cases involving awaiting-trial inmates.

While urging the facility’s correctional officers to uphold professionalism and focus on transforming inmates into better societal members, the wife of the Governor promised to support the facility with materials for vocational training, medication, and other essential supplies for the inmates’ wellbeing.

Receiving the items, the Officer in Charge, Assistant Comptroller of Corrections Owolagba Augustine, described the visit as unique, noting that it provided a morale boost to both the staff and the inmates.

He expressed gratitude to Hajia Sefinat Ododo for her generosity and assured the responsible use of all donated items.

The donation included thirty bags of fifty kg of rice, thirty cartons of spaghetti, thirty packs of banana flour, thirty bags of wheat, thirty cartons of Indomie noodles, thirty bags of Semovita, forty tubers of yam, two cartons of vegetable oil, cartons of Maggi seasoning cubes, two bags of garri, clothing, detergents, underwear, and cash donations.
