Pro-Wike PDP BOT Seeks Unity Ahead Of National Convention

todayMarch 12, 2026

Background

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for unity among party stakeholders following recent court judgments that affirmed the authority of the party’s National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC).

The Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, during the 86th meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) in Abuja on Wednesday, urged party leaders and members to avoid unnecessary litigations that could delay preparations for upcoming elections.

“We must unite ourselves for the betterment of our great party and focus on the tasks ahead,” he added.

He also confirmed that preparations were underway for the PDP National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, where the party is expected to reposition itself ahead of future political contests.

Mohammed said the caretaker committee had already taken steps to move the party forward by conducting ward and local government congresses across the country.

According to him, preparations are ongoing for state congresses in affected states as part of efforts to strengthen party structures ahead of the 2027 general election.

He also acknowledged the recent judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, noting that the court ruled in favour of the party’s caretaker leadership in nine separate appeals.

Mohammed commended the party’s legal team, leaders and supporters for their guidance and prayers throughout the legal process.

“The National Caretaker Working Committee remains the only national leadership recognised by law and by the party,” he said, adding that the committee is the legitimate body empowered to present candidates in the build-up to the 2027 general election.

He, however, noted that the party would study the Certified True Copy of the court judgments in preparation for any possible further legal proceedings at the Supreme Court.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa, described the meeting as coming at a defining moment in the life of the party.

He expressed optimism that the forthcoming state congresses would further consolidate the party’s structures nationwide.

Ohuabunwa said the Board of Trustees, as the conscience of the party, has the responsibility to guide the party with wisdom, institutional memory and commitment to its constitutional values.

Ohuabunwa also encouraged party leaders across the federation to support the ongoing electronic registration of members, describing the initiative as critical to modernizing the party’s membership system and ensuring a credible database.

He urged members to approach party affairs with patience, maturity and a spirit of reconciliation.“Our party has faced challenges before, yet history has shown that the PDP possesses the resilience required to overcome difficulties and emerge stronger,” he said.

The BoT chairman called on party leaders to remain committed to strengthening unity within the party while working towards providing credible leadership for Nigerians.
