todayMarch 10, 2026

Background

The Nigeria Ministers’ Wives Forum (NMWF) has officially handed over the newly renovated theatre, doctors’ call rooms, and toilets at Zuba General Hospital.

The Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Ministers’ Wives Forum, Mrs Azizat Kemi Alausa, said the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in the Federal Capital Territory.

Mrs Alausa explained that the renovation project is an initiative of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and an intervention by the Nigeria Ministers’ Wives Forum aimed at improving medical facilities and supporting healthcare professionals in their service to the public.

The Ministers’ Wives Forum equally distributed food items to over 300 women in the spirit of Lent and Ramadan, and presented hospital equipment, bedsheets, and blankets to the hospital.

“The month of Ramadan and Lent is a month of compassion and good deeds. So, we, the Nigerian Ministers’ Wives Forum, decided to refurbish parts of Zuba Hospital to enhance healthcare service delivery in the hospital.”

Mrs Alausa expressed the hope that the gesture will be extended to other healthcare facilities in need in the nation’s capital.

On her part, the Wife of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs Bilikisu Kyari, said the renovation would enhance the operational efficiency of the hospital, provide better working conditions for medical personnel, and improve the quality of care received by patients in the Zuba community and surrounding areas.

Speaking on the theme of the programme, “Renewing Hope, One Day at a Time,” the Mandate Secretary, FCT Health and Environment Secretariat, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, said the gesture reflects the Forum’s commitment to supporting social welfare initiatives, particularly in the health sector.

Dr Fasawe also used the medium to appeal to other associations and well-meaning Nigerians to give their support to the health sector towards improving the well-being of residents.

The Medical Director of Zuba General Hospital, Dr Isah Bulama, who described the support as life-transforming, lauded the ministers’ wives for their humanitarian services.

In a remark, the Emir of Zuba, Alhaji Bello Mohammed, thanked the group for giving Zuba Hospital a facelift and appealed for more facilities and recruitment of health workers to cater for the increasing population in the area.

Some Zuba community women, Mrs Aisha Mohammed, Mrs Catherine Dauda, Mrs Fatima Al-Hassan, and the Women Leader of Zuba Ward, Mrs Josephine Joel, who benefited from the items distributed, prayed for God’s blessings for the association and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Notable ministers’ wives, such as the Wife of the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Bagudu; Wife of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs Bilikisu Kyari; Wife of the Minister of State for Health, Mrs Risikatu Salako; and Wife of the Minister of Transportation, Zainab Saidu, among others, attended the event.

Stakeholders in the health sector, government officials, and community leaders also attended the handover ceremony.

The high point of the event was the inauguration of the renovated wards and the presentation of an undisclosed cash gift and extra packages for women who were able to mention two names of any minister and their portfolios.
