The wife of the Governor of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has called for greater commitment to advancing gender equality in Nigeria.
The Governor’s wife who made the call at a program in Lokoja to mark the International Women’s Day, themed “Give to Gain,” stressed that achieving meaningful progress in gender equality demands consistent efforts from all sectors of society.
Hajiya Ododo highlighted the necessity of investing time, resources, and creating opportunities for women to foster sustainable development and build stronger communities.
She asserted that the pursuit of equality must be intentional for societies to fully benefit from women’s contributions.

Speaking on this year’s theme, the Kogi First Lady emphasized that empowering women in communities, workplaces, and governance fosters greater development and economic growth.
She also commended Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her dedication to enhancing the welfare of women throughout the country, noting that the impact of her Renewed Hope Initiative reflects the importance of compassion, inclusion, and the strengthening of families and communities.
Kogi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Acharu Okpanachi, expressed joy that there was significant progress in women’s emancipation within the state, and praised both Governor Ododo and Hajia Sefinat for creating a supportive environment for women to succeed.
Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Kemi Omeiza, encouraged women to prioritize their wellbeing to be able to effectively care for others.
