Christian faithful have been urged to embrace spiritual brokenness and total surrender to God as a pathway to personal transformation and the growth of the church.
Apostle Dorathy Esu Biosio made the call while addressing worshippers at World Harvest Ministries Inc., Jikwoyi in Abuja in a sermon titled “Converted but Not Broken.”
Drawing from Psalms 51:16–17 and Psalm 34:18, the cleric said many believers identify as Christians but lack the humility and spiritual surrender required for genuine transformation.
“The problem of the church is unbroken Christians who are proud, cannot be corrected and are arrogant, noting that, adding that such attitudes hinder both personal and collective spiritual growth” She said
According to Apostle Esu, brokenness, a state of humility and submission to God is what God expects from believers.
“What God requires from Christians is brokenness,” she told the congregation.
She warned that without spiritual brokenness, believers may continue attending church year after year without experiencing meaningful spiritual growth.

“Any church where there is brokenness experiences growth, healing and transformation,” she said.
The cleric also stressed the importance of correction in the Christian faith, citing the Book of Proverbs to emphasise that correction is an expression of love.
Referencing Ezekiel 36:26, she said God replaces a “heart of stone” with a “heart of flesh” when believers fully surrender to Him.
Apostle Esu described brokenness as a lifestyle of humility, obedience and genuine repentance rather than merely a experience.
She cited the biblical story of Peter, who denied Jesus but later repented, as an example of true brokenness.
According to her, brokenness helps believers develop humility, strengthens spiritual character, prepares them for greater responsibility and enables them to serve others with compassion.
She concluded the sermon with prayers, asking God to grant members of the congregation the spirit of brokenness and transformation.
