The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the burning of its party secretariat in Ubima, Rivers State, describing the incident as an attack on democracy and political participation.
A statement by National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in Abuja alleged that the office was set ablaze by suspected political thugs and called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to the statement, the attack forms part of a pattern of intimidation against its members and facilities, noting that some supporters were recently shot during a political gathering, while other offices have also faced harassment and vandalism in recent months.
The statement says such actions undermine political tolerance and the constitutional right of citizens to freely associate and participate in the democratic process.
The statement while reaffirming its commitment to peaceful democratic engagement warned that it would take lawful steps to protect its members, supporters and facilities across the country.
