Maintain Grassroots Governance, Wike Tells Kuje Chairman-Elect

todayMarch 6, 2026

Background

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Dr Nyesom Wike, has advised the Chairman-elect of Kuje Area Council, Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, to sustain grassroots-driven governance and ensure regular consultation with community stakeholders in decision-making.

Wike gave the charge on Thursday in Abuja during a thank-you visit to the area council following the recently concluded area councill .

He emphasized that effective leadership at the local government level must be rooted in constant engagement with the people and traditional institutions.

The minister also assured residents that the three major roads request presented by the chairman-elect would receive attention from the administration when the new leadership of the area councils assume office in June.

The projects include the construction of the Kuje-Pegi Road, Kuje-Abaji Road and the Kuje-Kebi Road, which he said are critical for connectivity and economic activities in the council.

While speaking on the election, Wike expressed disappointment over what he described as the betrayal by the outgoing chairman of the council, Abdullahi Sabo, during the polls.

He, however, urged him to remain committed to his pledge to support the second-term bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The minister further cautioned the chairman-elect not to change his attitude after winning the election, stressing that the trust of the people must be sustained through transparent and inclusive governance.

Earlier, Shekwolo pledged the support of the council to the re-election of President Tinubu and appealed to the minister to facilitate the construction of the three major roads to boost development in the area.

In his remarks, the Gomo of Kuje, Haruna Tanko, also appealed to the minister to address pressing needs of the community, particularly the provision of pipe-borne water and the construction of the Kuje-Pegi and Kuje-Abaji roads.
