Re-elected AMAC Chairman Donates Borehole To FCT NUJ

todayFebruary 27, 2026

Background

The Chairman-Elect of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Christopher Maikalangu, has donated a borehole to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, FCT Council, as part of efforts to promote grassroots development and strengthen partnership with the media.

The donation was announced when the Chairman of NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, paid him a congratulatory visit following his victory in last Saturday’s municipal elections.

Represented by the Vice Chairman of Council, Yahaya Ndambabo, Comrade expressed appreciation for the warm reception and the borehole donation, describing it as a demonstration of the chairman-elect’s commitment to grassroots development and media collaboration.

She congratulated Maikalangu on what she described as a well-deserved landslide victory, noting that the outcome reflected the confidence reposed in him by residents of AMAC.

Ike highlighted infrastructural projects executed during Maikalangu’s first term, particularly in Sabon Lugbe and other communities, and reaffirmed the NUJ FCT Council’s role in providing coverage and monitoring of elections across AMAC and the five other area councils in the FCT.

“This well-deserved victory reflects your people-oriented leadership, now further demonstrated by this generous donation to the NUJ FCT Council,” Ike said, urging the chairman-elect to consolidate on his achievements in his second term.

In his response, Maikalangu thanked the NUJ FCT Council for the visit and for its consistent media support. He attributed his re-election to grassroots engagement, infrastructure development, and empowerment initiatives that resonated with voters.

“Politics is local; it is about the people at the grassroots, not just the city centres,” he said, adding that his first-term projects laid the foundation for renewed public trust.

He also commended the unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that strong grassroots mobilization contributed significantly to the high voter turnout recorded in the elections.

The borehole donation, he said, underscores his commitment to collaborative development and sustained engagement with critical stakeholders, including the media.
