President Bola Tinubu has appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, as the new Inspector-General of Police following the resignation of the outgoing IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.
According to the Presidency and the Police Service Commission, the appointment takes immediate effect.
President Tinubu commended the outgoing Inspector-General for his service to the nation and his contributions to policing reforms, wishing him success in his future endeavours.
The new Inspector-General of Police is a seasoned officer with extensive experience in intelligence and operational policing.
Until his elevation, Disu was heading the Force Criminal Investigation Department FCID
Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
Disu who previously served as Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory FCT, where he coordinated security operations across Abuja and strengthened intelligence-led policing, also headed the Police Intelligence Response Team IRT, leading several high-profile investigations and operations.
President Tinubu charged the new IGP to consolidate ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, intensify efforts to combat insecurity, and further enhance professionalism and public trust in the Force.
