Abia APC Resolves Dispute, Reschedules Congresses

todayFebruary 22, 2026

Background

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, says that the All Progressives Congress in Abia State remains united and formidable ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He stated this after a meeting in Abuja involving leaders and stakeholders of the party from Abia State, convened to address internal disagreements that led to the suspension of ward and local government congresses earlier scheduled for last week.

The meeting was chaired by the National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and attended by members of the party’s National Working Committee.

Kalu said the party’s leadership had taken proactive steps to resolve differences within the state chapter.

“There is no faction in Abia State. Everybody is going to be accommodated and we trust his judgment,” he said, referring to the national chairman.

He said that discussions among party leaders had strengthened their resolve to reposition the party for cohesion and electoral success in 2027.

Among those present at the meeting were Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nkeiru Onyejeocha; former senators including Orji Uzor Kalu, who participated by phone; and other members of the party caucus.

Yilwatda said disagreements that arose before the planned congresses had been resolved.
“We are going to have rancour-free elections on Wednesday and Thursday,” he said, referring to the rescheduled ward and local government congresses.

Onyejeocha also said outstanding issues had been settled amicably, describing the party as united going forward.

The APC had earlier suspended its congresses in Abia State following reported discrepancies.
