The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Infectious Diseases, Amobi Ogah, says parliament will ensure a full implementation of the 2026 federal budget after what he described as “virtually zero percent” performance in 2025.
Speaking at a budget performance review and 2026 budget defence session, Mr Ogah said the past year had been “very difficult and challenging” for the country.
He said lawmakers were determined to prevent a repeat of the situation, arguing that proper budget execution was essential to restore confidence in government and ensure citizens benefit from democracy.
The lawmaker also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step up efforts to deliver on campaign promises under his Renewed Hope agenda.
“It is our expectation that no stone will be left unturned to ensure full implementation of the Budget of the Federal Government of Nigeria going forward,” he said.
Those in attendance included the heads of agencies responsible for AIDS control, arbovirus and vector research, as well as tuberculosis and leprosy training.
