FG Targets Expanded Non-Oil Exports As Oduwole Defends 2026 Budget

todayFebruary 12, 2026

Background

‎The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole says Nigeria will intensify efforts to mobilize investment and expand non-oil exports in 2026,

‎Dr. Oduwole stated this while briefing journalists after the 2026 Budget Defence session with the Joint House Committee on Commerce, Industry and SMEDAN

‎The minister said the ministry and its agencies would embark on a nationwide tour under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), visiting all six geopolitical zones to promote trade facilitation.

‎According to Dr. Oduwole, Nigeria’s non-oil exports rose by 14% last year, reaching more than $6 billion in both volume and value  one of the highest levels recorded.

‎Earlier, the Chairman of the Joint Committee Ahmed Munir assured the Ministry of legislative backing but emphasised that the National Assembly would prioritise value-for-money and measurable economic impact over mere budget utilisation.

‎Mr. Munir stressed that the committee would scrutinise how the 2026 budget strengthens local content, supports Made-in-Nigeria initiatives, and empowers Small and Medium Enterprises through accessible credit, reduced regulatory bottlenecks, and improved ease of doing business.
