NSC Inaugurates LOC Members for 2027 African Youth Games

Background

The National Sports Commission (NSC), in a quest to successful host the second edition of the African Youth Games, inaugurated 28 members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the games tagged Abuja 2027.

The inauguration was performed by the Chairman of the NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko, at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

While addressing the committee, Mallam Dikko mandated them to organize a successful and excellent tournament, assuring a memorable and safe experience for the young athletes.

“I congratulate all the LOC members on their appointments, knowing full well that you have been entrusted with a serious national assignment. Your work will require planning, coordination, transparency and teamwork for the desired success to be achieved.

I want to assure all our African partners and stakeholders that Abuja 2027 will be safe, well organised and memorable for all our young athletes.”

Also present was the Director General of the NSC, Honourable Bukola Olopade, who noted that hosting the African Youth Games fits perfectly with the commission’s RHINSE (Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria Sports Economy) agenda, which prioritizes sports production.

“We are gradually returning Nigerian sports to where it rightly belongs on the continent and in the world at large, positioning Nigeria as a viable hub for hosting major international competitions to boost the country’s socio-cultural and economic impact through sports.”

Newly appointed LOC Chairman, Lekan Abari, however praised the current NSC leadership for driving a sports revival in Nigeria and pledged that the committee would operate with dedication and transparency.

The Committee Members include: Lekan Abari (Chairman), Bar Musa Amadu (Deputy Chairman), Sagaya Abdulmumeen (Secretary), Dr Ibrahim Abdul, Sabina Chikere, Arc. Adamu Tanimu, Olubunmi Ola-Oluode, Dr Lydia Gbagi, Olufunke Florence Olu-Young, Dr Oba Funsho Usman, Chief Victor Onogagamue and Farouk Yarma.

Others are Aisha Shuaibu, Chichi Nwoko, Ebidowei Oweife, Chief Amaka Ashiofu, Olalekan Alabi, Tunde Adeluola, Jude Ayandofu, Lanre Ogunjobi, Kola Daniel, Dr Ibrahim Gyaran, Femi Ayorinde, Dr Rabiu Mohammed, Yusuf Adamu, Jahnedu Ibekwelu, Gbadebo Oyebola and Barr. Friday Agboms.
