Let’s Recalibrate Our Machinery Of Justice For Maximum Impact – AGF

todayFebruary 11, 2026

Background

In a significant move to promote a collective responsibility to serve at all intersections of the justice sector, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN says there was need to recalibrate the machinery of justice for maximum impact and service excellence.

The AGF, who made the call at a Retreat in Abuja with the Theme: “Streamlining The Ministry’s 2026 Performance Management Cycle In Alignment With Presidential Priorities And Sector Specific Deliverables” stated that all hands must be on deck to confront uncomfortable truths such as weak systems and structures, bureaucratic inefficiencies, gaps in internal coordination, inter-agency collaboration, which have too often undermined public confidence in institutions.

The minister explained that President Bola Tinubu’s led- admistration has articulated clear priorities, including good governance, economic transformation, strengthening of the rule of law, among others.

“I dare say that this retreat is a strategic convergence of minds united by a singular purpose – to recalibrate our machinery of justice for maximum impact and service excellence.

“We are at a critical point in our nation’s transformation agenda where premium is being placed on accountable, responsive, and transformative governance, which ensures effective and efficient service delivery.

“As we are all aware, the leadership of each organization within the justice sector holds a sacred trust with attendant responsibilities. Our citizens expect and deserve a justice system that works efficiently, delivers fairly, and operates with unwavering integrity.”

“To meet these expectations, we must confront uncomfortable truths such as issues of weak systems and structures, bureaucratic inefficiencies, and gaps in internal coordination and inter-agency collaboration, which have too often undermined public confidence in our institutions.”

On her part, the Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, of the Ministry, Mrs Beatrice Jedi-Agba said the retreat was aimed at devising a roadmap with a fine-tuned mechanism for practical and measurable steps towards a more efficient system of justice administration.

The SGF, explained that the retreat was to engage in frantic conversations about how they have come in delivering their respective mandates hence plans for 2026 includes outlining performance targets, identifying challenges and exploring viable opportunities for improvement and renewal of their performance contracts.

“The decision and commitment we make here will define the perception of millions of Nigerians and beyond. Let’s therefore endeavor to do the right thing and remain fully committed to delivering the transformative results our nation deserves; the SGF added.

The event brought together heads of sister agencies under the ministry with paper presentation on the “Federal Civil Service Strategy And Implementation Plan 2012-2025 (Fessip25) aimed at leading a world class service for accelerated national development.
