Tinubu Intervenes, Broker Peace Between Wike and Fubara

todayFebruary 10, 2026

Background

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Nyesom Wike, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a father and statesman, has brokered peace between him and his successor, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The President’s intervention followed reports of renewed political tension in Rivers State.

Wike, who stated this during a routine inspection of ongoing road projects in Abuja, confirmed President Tinubu’s intervention, describing him as “very kind to the people of Rivers State” and deeply committed to restoring harmony.

According to the FCT Minister, the President’s intervention was necessary to safeguard peace and stability in the state, and he assured that both parties are ready to abide by Tinubu’s intervention.

“As a father, he has really intervened. This is the second time Mr. President is intervening, and I believe, by the grace of God, this will be the last time,” Wike said.

Wike disclosed that he had directed members of the State Assembly to respect and obey the President’s directive, expressing confidence that they would comply without hesitation.

He also expressed optimism that Governor Fubara would play his part to ensure lasting peace, so that the people of Rivers State would no longer be burdened with news of political discord.

“I believe that the governor will carry out his own part to make sure that this is the final time Rivers people will begin to hear this kind of discord,” he added.

Away from the political developments, the FCT Minister explained that the outing was part of his regular inspection of infrastructure projects to assess quality, timelines, and contractors’ performance.

During the inspection along Obafemi Awolowo Road, stretching from Life Camp through RR3 to the Karsana axis, Wike expressed satisfaction with the level of work done.

He noted that the Life Camp (N5) section had been largely completed, with Julius Berger now focusing on walkways and streetlights.

Wike also expressed delight that bridges which were still under construction during the last inspection have now been completed, with four lanes on each side.

He further commended the progress in Karsana, where Lubriks Construction is handling a project of over 10 kilometres, which appears like a ring road.

“I’m very impressed with the quality of work. From what I have seen, they are really going to meet up with the May–June timeline,” he said.

The Minister assured contractors of the government’s commitment to providing the necessary funding to ensure timely completion of the projects.

He expressed optimism that several of the ongoing road projects would be inaugurated by President Tinubu in his third year in office.
