Supporters Of Betrayal Will Be Betrayed : Wike Warns Serving Politicians

todayFebruary 8, 2026

Background

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a warning to Nigerian politicians, particularly governors serving their second term, declaring that those who support betrayers will inevitably suffer betrayal.

Wike said the warning was a message from “the gods of the land” and cautioned politicians nursing succession plans to be mindful of the alliances they keep.

The Minister spoke on Saturday in Port Harcourt while commissioning buses and the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors headquarters, which houses Majority FM 89.5, a situation room and office facilities.

According to Wike, betrayal is a consequence that follows anyone who aligns with disloyal individuals, noting that political actions carry lasting repercussions.

“Let me tell you one thing, today is the 7th of February, whoever is watching, whether you are a senator, whether a House of Reps member, or a minister, whether you are a governor and you support betrayers, people will continue to betray you in life.”

He warned that politicians who enable betrayal will have no grounds to complain when they are eventually betrayed.

“You sit down and support those who betray, betrayal is your portion and the day you will be betrayed, you will not have mouth to say anything, there you will collapse. You will reap the seed that you planted, you will reap it, whatever you sow you will reap it.”

Wike further cautioned second-term governors hoping to install successors, saying such plans would backfire if rooted in betrayal.

“Betrayal will follow you everywhere, I have told you, and don’t take it for granted, watch every governor who is doing his second tenure, who has ambition to put a successor and is supporting a betrayer, you will never survive it, betrayer will follow you.

The day your successor comes in, my own took some months, your own will start immediately, this is what the gods of the land have told me to tell you people.” Wike declared

The Minister’s remarks are widely seen as a veiled reference to his political fallout with his successor in Rivers State and a broader caution to political office holders ahead of future elections.
