Finally, Labour Unions, FCTA Reach Agreement, Suspend Strike

todayFebruary 3, 2026

Background

After days of industrial action, the organised labour and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have finally reached a consensus, bringing relief to workers and residents of the FCT.

This followed a conciliatory meeting held in the early hours of Tuesday, 3rd February 2026, between the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Dr, Nyesom Wike, and representatives of organised labour Leaders, at the instance of the Chairman, Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Mohammed Bomoi.

According to a circular jointly issued by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), all complaints presented by JUAC members were taken one after the other and fully addressed.

The FCT Minister also assured the organised labour of mutual respect and sustained engagement going forward, with
assurance, that no worker would be victimised as a result of participation in the strike action.

Consequently, JUAC members and all affiliates of the TUC and NLC working in the Ministry of the FCT have been directed to resume work with immediate effect.

In addition, all outstanding cases involving the dispute at the National Industrial Court (NIC) are to be withdrawn immediately.

Labour leaders urged all affiliates to comply strictly with the directive in the interest of industrial peace and harmony.

The resolution marks a major step toward restoring normalcy in the FCT and underscores the importance of dialogue in resolving labour disputes.

The circular was jointly signed on behalf of the unions and workers by tge Secretary General, TUC, Comrade NA Toro, and the Ag. General Secretary, NLC Comrade Benson Upah.
