Abuja@50: Wike Hails Infrastructural Feat Under Tinubu, Says More Underway

todayFebruary 3, 2026

Background

As Abuja marks 50 years as Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, the Minister of the FCT, Dr Nyesom Wike, has commended the massive infrastructural transformation taking place under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that more development is underway.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing projects across the city, Wike said the Gishiri major road project nearing completion is expected to be one of the projects that will be inaugurated to mark Tinubu’s third year in office.

The minister said the FCT has witnessed remarkable changes in infrastructure over the past three years, stressing that the Tinubu administration has significantly altered the landscape of the capital city.

“Alot has changed in terms of infrastructure.Over the past three years ,and this isn’t merely a jubilee celebration, the President’s tenure has changed the landscape of the FCT.We are executing projects in line with the master plan.”

The inspection team also visited the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), also known as Ring Road I, where bridges are currently under construction.

According to the minister, work in the OSEX corridor will also be delivered as part of activities marking the administration’s third-year anniversary, further enhancing Abuja’s road network.

Wike expressed satisfaction with progress at the Apo Wassa axis, where road infrastructure is being developed to support the relocation and operations of Apo traders.

He disclosed that three major projects currently being executed are expected to be completed by August, praising the contractors for the quality and pace of work.

On recent labour issues, Wike dismissed concerns of major setbacks, noting that engagement with trade unions helped clarify misunderstandings.

He emphasized that there were no systemic problems and that conditions have now improved for workers to return to their duties, adding that the ultimate goal remains the continued growth and progress of the FCT as Abuja celebrates 50 years of nationhood.
