Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Nyesom Wike, has declared that Rivers State is leading other states in mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Wike made the statement on Friday in Port Harcourt during the inauguration of senatorial and local government coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a political support structure backing Tinubu’s administration.
According to the Minister, Rivers State has set the benchmark for political mobilisation and will continue to demonstrate unwavering commitment to the President’s re-election bid.
“I know after today other states may inaugurate their own structures, but Rivers State will always lead the way. Support is not by mouth; we have shown commitment with action,” Wike said.
He noted that political activities ahead of the 2027 elections had effectively commenced, adding that ward-level inaugurations of the ambassadors would soon follow.
Wike also questioned the commitment of the Rivers State governor to President Tinubu’s re-election, stressing that political rewards are tied to loyalty and commitment, not financial contributions.
“You cannot have a governor in the state while we are openly declaring support for President Tinubu and he is not aligning. How then do you expect a reward?” he asked.
“You don’t need ₦600 billion; all you need is commitment. That is what brings reward, even if it attracts envy.”
He described the initiative as a rainbow coalition and thanked President Tinubu for supporting the coalition’s candidates in the February 21 by-elections in Khana Constituency II and Ahoada West Constituency II.
He urged voters to turn out en masse to support the candidates, regardless of party affiliation.
Rivers State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, thanked members of both the PDP and APC for their massive turnout in support of the President.
Speaking on behalf of federal political appointees, Senator George Sekibo assured President Tinubu of sustained support from Rivers State, commending him for key appointments and major projects in the state.
“No President has undertaken projects of this magnitude while also appointing Rivers indigenes. Tell the President we are grateful,” Sekibo said.
Similarly, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, speaking for the National Assembly caucus, reaffirmed support for Tinubu’s re-election.
“What we did in 2023, we will do better in 2027. Politics is give and take,” Chinda stated.
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and former PDP state chairman, Felix Obuah, also pledged their support for President Tinubu.
Meanwhile, the PDP and APC Chairmen in Rivers State, Aaron Chukwuemeka and Tony Okocha respectively, assured that their parties were fully mobilised ahead of the 2027 elections.
