Not less than One Hundred farmers and Organic Agriculture Practitioners from the Northern states are currently in Abuja on capacity training on Seed Production.and organic system certification.
The essence of the two days training is to ensure production of quality seeds and the proper use of Organic system.
Addressing the opening of the program, the Director General of the National Agricultural Seeds Council NASC, Mr Mohammed Fatuhu said the council has been at the forefront of promoting the community Based Seed Program to meet large demand of good and quality seed production.
According to the Director General, NASC is advancing the concepts of Community Based Seed Program which also promotes quality seed serving practice, thereby preserving valuable traditional crop varieties and contributing to Long term food security and agricultural sustainability in the communities.

Represented by an Assistant Director in NASC, Madam Esther Mahda, the Director General said the NASC would continue to develop strategies to meet the Present Administration’s initiatives on food security and Job Creation in the Agricultural sector.
He commended the organizer, Association Of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria and urged the participants to make maximum use of the training in production and verification procedure of quality seeds.
The President Association Of Organic Practitioner of Nigeria Professor Jude Obi maintained that the program was carefully designed as a farmer centered initiative bringing farmers, Seed producers, extension agents and Organic value chain actors in storage, quality control and Seed multiplication.
He assured that the training would also come up in Ibadan,Oyo State and Umuahia, Abia State to enable stakeholders receive the needed skill to tackle challenges against multiplication of seeds and application of organic system.
Experts and Stakeholders in the Agriculture sector in their separate solidarity message commended the initiative which they said came at a time when the federal government is investing in Agriculture for food security.
