As part of the Federal Government’s renewed efforts to strengthen national security and veterans’ welfare, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa rtd, has inaugurated an 18-member committee to reclaim ungoverned spaces for economic viability and reposition the Nigerian Legion Corps of Commissionaires and veterans.
According to a statement in Abuja, the inauguration, held at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Abuja, underscores the government’s commitment to integrating military veterans into security and development initiatives.
The Minister represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Richard Pheelangwa, described the Nigerian Legion as a critical institution with a proud history of service, stressing the need to reform and reposition the corps in line with evolving socio-economic realities.

General Musa said the initiative seeks to move beyond over-reliance on military offensives by adopting a more inclusive and sustainable approach to national security that addresses the root causes of insecurity.
The committee is mandated to reposition veterans to support economic development, deploy them to secure ungoverned spaces, and strengthen the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Legion to promote peace and inclusive growth.
