Ugbada Day : Senator Wowo Tasks Youths On Community Development In FCT

Background

A former Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Usman Jibrin Wowo has advised youths in the Territory to be committed to the progress and development of their communities.

Senator Wowo made the call during the Annual Ugbada Day Celebration held in Kuje, Abuja.

The former Lawmaker who described youths as the bedrock of any society stressed the need for them to always acquire the necessary knowledge and education that would make them patriotic and productive future leaders in their respective communities.

He commended the youths of Gwargwada Village in Kuje Area Council of the FCT for organizing a befitting annual Ugbada Day which he described as a veritable avenue of promoting their cultural heritage.

In his goodwill message, the Protocol Liaison Officer to the President, Ambassador Yakubu Musa ccongratuled Gede people on the occasion of the Ugbada Day Celebration and stressed the need for them to always be in the vanguard of ensuring national peace and development.

Ambassador Yakubu Musa who used the opportunity to highlight some laudable programmes of President Bola Tinubu’s led administration on youth development said he has put in place a scholarship scheme programme that would assist the youths in actualizing their educational pursuit and dreams.

He therefore advised youths of Gwargwada community to always be good ambassadors of their families and be proud of their culture wherever they found themselves.

Earlier, the Agabe of Ugbada, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Hussaini Agabi MAM said the annual Ugbada Day Celebration was to showcase the cultural heritage of Gede people in Kuje Area Council towards promoting unity, peace and development in the area

The Traditional Ruler who expressed concern over gradual extinction of some cultural practices due to foreign influence and religion called for measures that would further harness culture for national peace and development.

The Traditional Ruler noted that once someone loses culture, he or she loses identity explained that measures were being put in place to preserve the cultural practices and heritage of Gwargwada community.

While also commending the youths of the community for organizing the Ugbada Day Celebration, Alhaji Hussaini Agabi advised Gede people to imbibe the culture of love and embrace formal education for self reliance and development.

The Annual Ugbada Day Celebration which was attended by sons and daughters of Gwargwada community and Gede people within and outside Kuje Area Council featured masquerade performances, traditional dances, display of Gwargwada musical instruments, festivals among others.
