Over Five hundred women and Persons With Disabilities,PWDs, have received assistance from the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative (OEI), a pet project of the First Lady of Kogi State, Hajiya Sefinat Usman Ododo.
At an event held at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja, Hajiya Sefinat Ododo emphasized her dedication to enhancing the dignity and quality of life for persons with disabilities and the less privileged in the State.
She indicated that the initiative aims to improve mobility and provide support to enable beneficiaries to develop their businesses for self-sufficiency.
The Governor’s wife urged the recipients to utilize the items and cash grants responsibly and effectively.

The Coordinator of the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, Mary Agamalafia stated that over the past year, numerous individuals, groups, and communities have benefited from various OEI interventions throughout the state.
She highlighted the organization’s achievements and underscored the fact that inclusion should not be viewed as an act of charity, asserting that meaningful progress occurs only when everyone is considered.
The Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Commission for Disability Affairs, Yakubu Abdulkareem, commended the first lady for establishment of the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative.
He described the gesture as a sincere effort to promote inclusion for people with disabilities in the state, noting that the provided items offer not only mobility but also independence, hope, and sustainable livelihoods.
The items distributed included wheelchairs, crutches, mobility aids, empowerment grants, and sunscreen creams.
