In a significant measure to sustain the rule of law through effective service delivery in the country, the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has restated its Commitment towards boosting justice administration for national development.
The President of NBA, Mr Afam Osigwe SAN, made the call in Abuja, ahead of the upcoming Annual General Conference AGC, slated for August 2026 in Port- Harcourt with the theme ‘Beyond Limits”.
The NBA president said the essence of the theme for the General Annual Conference was a wake up call for legal practitioners and Nigerians to stand and do things differently in tackling challenges ranging from socio-economic, insecurity, leadership and political among others.
‘The theme may sound like a motivational one but, Nigerians have to take a bolder step towards building a more sustainable and stronger nation. School children were kidnapped from their school in their numbers towards the end of 2025 coupled with threats from the US towards invading the country refered to as ‘A country of a Particular Concern” which doesn’t speak well for us.”
“It’s time for us to go beyond limits and comfort zones, a call for lawyers and all patriotic Nigerians to take action in identifying our problems and putting in place necessary measures towards addressing them instead of complaining.”
“The NBA believes that as partners in building the nation we are ready to go beyond any limitation placed against us so as to dismantle such obstacles to ensure the justice sector contributes immensely to deliver on its core mandate.”
“The NBA calls on those in authority and governance to also go beyond all limits in finding a long lasting solution to our problems towards building a stronger society, to strengthen our economy in the interest of all citizens.”
The NBA president also commended the former Attorney General of the Federation AGF, Minister of Justice Kanu Agabi SAN and Chief James Onoja SAN for their significant roles for legal excellence and dedication to the rule of Justice and various mentorship initiatives for young lawyers.
“We at the Bar will continue to commend the former AGF and Onoja who has continued to lend helping hands and mentor many young lawyers. In Trinity House 80% of lawyers are staying at no charge among others, he added.”
On his part, the Chairman, Planning Committee ahead of NBA, Annual General Conference Abdul Mohammed SAN said the Nigerian Bar Association is going beyond an outdated system, complacency, division, fear and societal expectation hence the need for innovations, transcending boundaries and achieving excellence in the justice sector to maintain integrity for nation building.”
“We are gathered here today to officially unveil the Logo and theme of our upcoming NBA Annual General Conference which has been carefully choosen by the Annual General Planning Committee and to call for action for every lawyer in Nigeria to rise above challenges and push boundaries.”
“We are living in an era of rapid change and Nigerian lawyers must lead beyond limits to champion legal reforms, legal education and to mentor the next generation of lawyers to promote ethical leadership.”
“We are launching a movement within the BAR to push boundaries and redefine possibilities. Let “Beyond limits” echo in our branches, shape and guide our conversations towards a stronger and more dynamic Bar, the journey to our AGC has begun let’s go beyond limits together, Mohammed added”.
