The House of Representatives Minority Caucus has called on the federal government to improve welfare support for military personnel and the families of soldiers killed in the line of duty.
In a statement issued in Abuja by the Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, to mark this yearβs Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the caucus said the January 15 observance should go beyond ceremonial events and underscore the need for tangible support for military personnel.
The lawmakers praised the military for its efforts to tackle insecurity across the country but said persistent security challenges continue to place heavy demands on officers and soldiers.
They urged the federal government to strengthen welfare schemes and provide modern equipment, warning that insecurity continues to undermine economic growth and national development.
The caucus also pledged to pursue legislative measures aimed at ensuring the armed forces have the capacity to protect lives and property.
