The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has disbursed a total of ₦55.9 billion as monthly pensions and outstanding pension arrears to eligible pensioners and Next-of-Kin of deceased pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS) for December 2025.
The payment comprised ₦13.41 billion for monthly pensions across all operational pension departments, including diaspora pensioners, while ₦42.50 billion was paid to settle outstanding pension arrears.
PTAD explained that the arrears covered obligations arising from the ₦32,000 pension increment, the 10.66 per cent and 12.95 per cent pension increases, as well as other accrued arrears, gratuity, and death benefits owed to beneficiaries.
A breakdown of the arrears showed that the Civil Service Pension Department received the highest allocation, with ₦16.36 billion paid to 71,643 pensioners, followed by the Defunct and Transferred Agencies Department, which received ₦15.07 billion for 24,995 pensioners.
The Parastatals Pension Department received ₦7.81 billion paid to 25,718 pensioners, while the Tertiary Education and Health Department received ₦2.37 billion for 28,245 pensioners. The Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension Department was paid ₦604.33 million for 8,606 pensioners.
In addition, the Police Pension Department received ₦5.88 million paid to five pensioners, while ₦289.11 million was disbursed as gratuity and death benefits to eligible Next-of-Kin of deceased pensioners.
PTAD stated that with the December payments, arrears resulting from the ₦32,000 pension increment have been fully cleared across all pension departments, except for one month outstanding for pensioners under the Parastatals Pension Department and the Tertiary Education and Health Department.
The Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, said the payments reflect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of senior citizens under the Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that the Directorate remains committed to clearing the remaining arrears and improving the welfare of DBS pensioners.
