President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Thursday instructed his lawyers to withdraw all defamation cases he filed against individuals who had wronged him.
Speaking after a new year message delivered at the Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the President of the senate said he was moved by the message of the New Year Mass and had resolved to withdraw the cases.
According to Akpabio, something in him told him that the clergyman was directly speaking to him.
“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me, who slandered my name”.
“But, I listened to the priest and suddenly realised he was talking to me; so I hereby direct my solicitors to withdraw all lawsuits against them”, he declared.
The cleric, Very Reverend Father Donatus Udoette, who is both the Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Parish, Aka, and the Vicar-General of the Catholic Diocese of Uyo, had told the congregation that the greatest thing that man needed was peace.
The clergyman called on the parishioners to live in peace with one another, according to the Lord’s injunction.
The President of the Senate’s directive immediately drew attention, especially on the long battle the Senate had in 2025 with the Kogi-Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Last month, Akpabio had filed a N200billion defamation suit against Akpoti-Uduaghan over the sexual harassment allegation the female senator made against him earlier in February.
The Senate had suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months over breach of its standing orders on seat allocation within the chambers.
Amid the development, the lawmaker alleged that she had been sexually harassed by Akpabio before the incident, as she granted several media interviews and linked the Senate’s action to the alleged private issue between herself and Akpabio.
