House Minority Urges Action On Insecurity, Economy In 2026

todayJanuary 1, 2026

Background

The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has urged the federal government to urgently address insecurity, inflation and unemployment as the country enters 2026.

In a New Year message in Abuja by the Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, the caucus congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad for witnessing the New Year despite what it described as severe national challenges in the past year.

The lawmakers said 2025 was marked by widespread insecurity, rising inflation, hunger and deepening poverty, warning that the situation had become “worrisome and fearful” for many citizens.

They called on the federal government to take deliberate and comprehensive steps to tackle insecurity, stressing that sustainable development is impossible without peace and the safety of lives and property.

The caucus also urged authorities to address infrastructure deficits, youth unemployment and corruption, noting that progress would require sincerity and intentional leadership.

While acknowledging the challenges ahead, the lawmakers appealed to Nigerians to work collectively toward national development, saying true nationhood requires shared responsibility.

They described Nigeria as a nation blessed with enormous potential and said its diversity remains a key strength, calling for cooperation across ethnic and religious lines.

The caucus assured Nigerians that it would remain focused in 2026 on legislative oversight and actions aimed at improving citizens’ welfare.
