The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, has extended warm felicitations to Nigerian workers and the masses at Christmas, urging them to draw hope from collective action rather than empty platitudes.
In a Christmas message signed by him in Abuja, Comrade Ajaero said the season, rooted in hope, love and renewal, reflects the present national reality marked by economic hardship and pressure on the survival of Nigerian workers, but also presents an opportunity for organised resistance and renewal.
He acknowledged that life has become increasingly difficult for millions of Nigerians due to harsh economic policies and rising cost of living, noting however, that the true message of Christmas is hope emerging from hardship and the assurance that darkness cannot overcome light.
The NLC President stressed that the hope for national revival is not passive, but anchored on the collective strength of workers, farmers, traders, teachers, nurses and other citizens who constitute the backbone of the nation.
According to him, unity, organisation and solidarity remain the strongest tools for rescuing Nigeria from hardship.
Comrade Ajaero cautioned Nigerians against division along ethnic, religious or regional lines, emphasising that national strength lies in unity.
He called for the building of a broad, disciplined and indivisible movement of the people committed to justice, equity and good governance.
He also reiterated Labour’s demand for tax justice, insisting that any tax system that excludes workers from its formulation or is distorted by manipulation remains unjust and unacceptable.
He urged the government to prioritise social justice, fair wages, workers’ rights, quality healthcare, education, and a secure environment where lives and property are protected.
Comrade Ajaero assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Labour Congress remains committed to mobilising workers to resist policies that inflict suffering, stressing that only collective action can guarantee the nation’s hope and future.
He called on Nigerians to use the festive season as a period of re-dedication to unity and organisation, beginning from their communities and workplaces.
The NLC President concluded by urging Nigerians to move into 2026 with renewed resolve, expressing confidence that through unity, organisation and collective action, a better and more equitable Nigeria can be achieved.
