HOR : 6 PDP Lawmakers From Rivers State Defect To APC

todayDecember 24, 2025

Background

Six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, deepening divisions within the PDP.

The lawmakers Robinson Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi and Felix Nwaeke announced their defection at plenary.

Speaker of the House, Dr Abbass Tajudeen read their letters on the floor of the chamber, in which they cited internal divisions and an unresolved political crisis within the PDP as reasons for leaving the party.

The lawmakers said the crisis had made it difficult for them to pursue their political ambitions and pledged to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda under the APC.

The defections reduced the PDP’s representation in the Rivers State caucus of the House to two members, from 12 previously.

Last week, three other Rivers lawmakers, Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji-Inombek Abiante and Boma Goodhead also defected to the APC.

The remaining PDP lawmakers from the state are House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda and Kelechi Nwogu.
